I didn’t want to be considered a helicopter parent. If I went to the boys before the show, they’d probably tell me to leave anyway. Tonight, AJ was debuting a new song, Catacombs. He’d written it, he said, a couple of weeks ago when he went to visit his mother’s grave. I wondered what he’d seen at the cemetery to even come up with a song like that, but it had a catchy beat even while being morbid and macabre.

“Thank you for indulging Eddy,” Lyr—er—Apollo said. “I know I gave you much to ponder and think about. I hope I haven’t upset you too greatly.”

Upset me? No way. I had nerves of steel. Nothing messed with my head. Except for Apollo. “I can’t say I haven’t thought about those memories you shared with me.”

"I think I might have been too eager to share with you. I have to confess, I was nervous." He gave a small smile while rubbing his palms along his trousers.

“The Sun God, nervous?” I snorted. “No way.”

“You researched me.”

“We all have basic knowledge of the gods and goddesses. We learned most of it in high school history.”

“So, you’re not like Ares’ lady friend? You’re not obsessed with the gods?” He cocked a brow, joking with me, or at least I hoped he was.

“No, though, I do have questions. Tons of questions. If you’d be willing to answer them.” I admit I’d been curious about everything. The vomitous amount of inquires I’d had earlier pressed at my lips to spew forth and probably embarrass the hell out of Apollo. I had to wait. Tonight, was about the boys.

“Name a time and day and I’ll answer them,” Apollo said.

“Okay.” I nodded then took a deep cleansing breath. “AJ is debuting a new song tonight. No one has heard it but the band. Usually, he’ll play out in the garage so our neighbors and whoever could listen in. This one is personal—well, technically, they all are, but this one... He wrote this one in less than an hour.”

Apollo sat up a little straighter. “Really?” He leaned in, lowering his voice. “What’s it about?”

“It’s called Catacombs. He said he got this feeling while visiting his mom and he had to write the song down. It’s pretty catchy. Dark, for obvious reasons, but it’s a good bop.” I glanced out toward the stage. “There’s only six acts tonight. I’m nervous.” I was a wreck. I’d been anxious for a majority of the day until Eddy showed up. I’d tried not to let it show with the boys, but I’m sure I failed.

"Don't be. Our boys and my niece are going to kill it." He wrapped his arm around me. "Though I must confess, I've felt the same way."

"See, it's a parents' intuition. We have to be scared for them because, at this age, they don't know fear." Heat filled my cheeks as I settled in. The bursts of being comfortable around Apollo were nice. He made everything seem so easy.
